When I was in my late twenties, wondering where I would find meaning, purpose and direction for my life, I approached Helen Bonny, a family friend, to ask her advice. When I heard her speak in Quaker Meeting from time to time, she seemed to hold some of the answers to my questions. She introduced me to a way of listening to music in a deeply relaxed state. This way of listening became known as The Bonny Method of Guided Imagery and Music (GIM). From the earliest, first experiences with GIM through to today, I feel that I am 'invited by music' into the depths of my soul. Music has been a carrier-wave enabling me to explore the worlds of imagination and creativity. In turn, I have been guide, facilitator, and witness to many others who have likewise been drawn to this work and invited by music.

When the opportunity was given to me by the Bonny Institute to develop a film about Helen and GIM, I chose the title 'Invited by Music: explorations in consciousness' as the quintessence of what she has made available to me and to others.

“Let the music take you... where you need to go.” This open ended guidance allows us to put ourselves into the universal flow of harmony, an aesthetic envelope of sound, and to find our true nature through perseverance, courage, and surrender.
